This Day In Kentucky Sports History

17 Years Ago Today – January 1, 1999

- Kentucky, making its first New Year Day’s bowl game since 1952, starts off strong against Penn State in the Outback Bowl matchup. Touchdown passes from Tim Couch to Lance Mickelson and Anthony White give the Cats an early 14-3 lead. From that point on, however, the Penn State defense completely takes over the game and shuts down the UK offense. When late in the game the Nittany Lions stop Kentucky on a 4th-and-1 from it’s own 35-yard line, it secures the 26-14 Outback Bowl victory for Penn State.
